“We are all subject to the passing of time, yet each of us feels and perceives it in our own way,” says Japanese artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi. You can tell that time is at the heart of his exhibition ‘Layer Drawings’. In his three-dimensional installations, he captures a single moment in the natural world such as beautiful sunsets and deep green forests. Every one of the photographs mounted on acrylic panels shows a slightly different shot which gives us the wonderful impression of slow-motion. Take a wander through the exhibition at Kashya Hildebrand’s gallery in London.

The Bellaphone is pretty strange as speakers come-and we love it! Made and designed by Jordan Waraksa of Fiddle + Hammer, a Milwaukee-based furniture company, the collection has been fashioned from fumed oak tequila barrels and is inspired by the gramophones of the early 20th century.

Last week we were lucky enough to visit Today Studios, a workspace for creatives in Hackney, London, for a talk given by Dominic Cools-Lartigue and Matt Munday. The pair met in the rave scene of East London in the 90’s, with Dom running various club venues and promoting music events, and Matt being a deep house DJ who also happened to report for several underground music fanzines. The former went on to kickstart Street Feast and pioneer a new evening street food culture in the city whereas the latter now writes for the Sunday Times Magazine amongst other publications. The pair discussed a number of topics including the transition to the digital era for many media outlets, a comparison of DJ’ing and journalism, and their plans for the future. We’ll leave you with a quote from Dom that certainly struck a chord with us – “For me, all good design and innovation ‘just makes sense’, and should do for all creatives”.

Inspired by Japanese prefectures and Swiss cantons, Studio Temp from Bergamo have rebranded 20 Italian regions and given them a fresh look. A beautiful and challenging job considering all of the regions already had their own emblem – some of them hundreds of years old – as well as a strong individual identity. With great attention to detail Studio Temp have created a new design using simplified, graphic elements and a palette of seven colours. Each of them relates to the region’s history. Grazie, Icon Magazine!

With holiday season around the corner, we’re stocking up on suncream. For now we can get away with SPF 30. In 2070, SPF 350+ might be more appropriate. Due to climate change the earth will be warmer by 4°C. Nature Conservancy Brazil helps us prepare for this with their Products of Tomorrow which also include drinking water and an organic apple. You can’t actually buy them – when you try to check out a message pops up that reassures us we don’t need them … yet. Agency Africa created this campaign to ‘explore the bright side of a dystopian world’. Read the whole story at Adweek.
