Nest 06 by Jakub Geltner

I’m watching you

Do you ever get pissed off as you stroll down your local high street and notice a sky of CCTV cameras peering down? Jakub Geltner, the Czech artist, clearly feels the same as he creates ‘nests’ of technological equipment in public spaces, to highlight the increased levels of surveillance and number of big brother states. Nest 06 in Sydney is the latest example, with a cluster of cameras gazing down on passers-by as they make their way to the beach. Uncomfortable much?!

Under the bridge downtown

Life is full of distractions - from flicking through social media to the lorry driver furiously beeping his horn outside your office window. For this reason, Spanish furniture designer Fernando Abellanas created a fantastic little hiding spot, tucked away on the underside of one of Valencia’s many bridges. Whereas others might have considered the location a waste of urban space, Abellanas has converted it into a marvellous pop-up workshop, hidden from the disruptions of modern life. He accesses it by climbing up the ramped side of the underpass and turning a crank to shift a platform over to the side of the bridge, where a chair, desk and set of shelves are attached.

& SMITH & Gin & Honeycomb too!

Known for its luxury, bespoke products, Liberty London, has recently announced its Mini British Food Hall. Populated with the delightful snacks, booze and specialities of its ‘artisan micro-producers’, Liberty wanted the personal nature of its products to be mirrored by their packaging. Working with branding agency & SMITH, they curated work from a number of up and coming British illustrators, to create packaging that reflected the story behind each of the products and their respective micro-producers. We absolutely love it!

When dinosaurs roamed the screen

At the tail end of August, gamescom 17 was kicked off in Cologne by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The leading European trade fair for digital gaming culture was chosen by Frontier Developments as an opportunity to launch their new game, Jurassic World Evolution. The game caught our eye because it effectively allows players to design and create their own Jurassic World, even bioengineering new breeds of dinosaur! Every wannabe designer with paleontological tendencies under the sun will be clambering to grab a copy when it’s released in the summer of 2018…..

Adam 2016 by Jamie Hawkesworth

From Preston to Antarctica

British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth will next week have his work showcased in the most notable solo exhibition of his career so far. ‘Landscape With Tree’ will be stretched across all 14 rooms of the Huis Marseille Museum of Photography in Amsterdam, to provide a truly immersive experience. The eclecticism of the collection alongside the compassionate personality of his work reflects Hawkesworth' own journey from Preston to the rest of the world and means that the exhibition is definitely one to catch if you’re popping about in Amsterdam.
