This electric light sign from circa 1900 has recently surfaced online. In an age where technological innovations have become evolutionary rather than revolutionary, we no longer require similarly basic instructions. At what point in the future will we need to have new pieces of technology explained to us in this way?

Exciting democracy – the 10 finalists of this year’s competition to design the ‘I Vote’ campaign in New York have been announced. All stickers reflect New York’s diversity and show wonderful illustrations of the city. The winner of the competition will be distributed for the primary election on September 12 and replace the current one which was designed by a 10-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother in 2013.

Dutch designer Olivier van Herpt loves humming, rattling machines. The more buttons, dials, and lights, the better. Inspired by technology and natural materials, the Eindhoven-based designer has developed pioneering 3D printing and digital fabrication methods. After years of experimentation with machines and materials, a series of five ceramic vases using his custom-designed 3D printer is shown in COS shops around the world. A full interview can be read here at our friends over at COS ... http://www.cosstores.com/gb/st...

Dakota Sings The Blues, from 1965 by Brian Sanders

You may not have heard of Brian Sanders, but you will certainly recognise some of his illustrations. Having been commissioned by the creators of ‘Mad Men’, of ‘James Bond’ and even by the Royal Mail to design postage stamps, his career has spanned over five decades and will be shown at the Lever Gallery, London from May 12 to July 31.

Cities are like magnets, a place of aspiration and sparkling skyscrapers. They always have been. In his first book The Age of Spectacle: Adventures in Architecture and the 21st-Century City, London-based enthusiast, historian, writer and broadcaster Tom Dyckhoff describes the rise and fall of modern Western cities back in the 1970s and shares his vision on where architecture is heading now.
