Taking Phone Cameras Seriously

The use of the iPhone as a valid medium for art gains further momentum as the Turner Prize 2018 goes to Charlotte Prodger for her deeply personal and touching film 'Bridgit'. In this she explores identity, gender, nationhood and how our subjective views can change based on experience.

Uniquely, these themes are portrayed entirely through the lens of a phone, a first for Turner Prize Winner. Technology is increasingly intertwined with our lives and is operating, now more than ever, as an extension of our own identity. It's impact in the creative sector is something which is only recently surfacing, with digital as a medium in installation works still continuing to be explored.

Pils Infinite Sessions by B&B studio

Drink in these Designs

For many of us, the thought of cutting down on or completely eradicating our lager consumption can be a particularly dull one. This isn't helped by the monotonous label and packaging design of the household, alcohol-free beers on the market. Becks Blue bottles certainly don't inspire feelings of excitement, gratification or anything at all to be honest! That’s why we were so delighted to see Digital Arts’ roundup of particularly creative, alcohol-free can and bottle designs. The labels from brands like O’Doul’s in particular will go a long way towards easing the inevitable, incoming misery of Dry January.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2019

A New Colour that You Will See Everywhere

Move over Millennial Pink, Living Coral has arrived...and we love it! Just as coral reefs provide shelter and nutrients for their inhabitants, Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2019 evokes a sense of comfort and joy in a time of global unrest. With its ties to the natural world, Living Coral helps to bridge the gap between the real and the hyperreal, making it a brilliant choice for digital content. Big brands like Apple are already using this colour in their designs and we can expect to see it a lot more across fashion, interiors and other consumer goods. This is okay with us, it's way more flattering than Millennial Pink ever was...

Computer Chip by Pentagram & Graphcore

A Computer Chip with all the Design Ticks

Design mavericks Pentagram and industrial design outfit Map have collaborated to reimagine what a normally ‘boring’ computer chip looks like. Appointed by UK based start-up Graphcore, the brief was to help them stand out from the crowd, appeal to engineers and break away from the traditional black or chrome shell usually found in computer chips. Despite sitting in the core of your computer the colourful tiles create a more human and softer look, perfect for the design oriented techie. The bold look of the chip draws attention to the brand and most importantly, gets people talking about it.

'Moon' Wood Engraving by Ben Goodman

Creative Crafters

It is well known that Bristol is a hub of incredible creativity with one of the most burgeoning craft, design and theatre scenes in the UK today. This Christmas Colston Hall, in the heart of the city, is hosting weekly Christmas craft markets each weekend showcasing some of the best local talent, including stalls from craftspeople such as Amber Hards with her stunning range of handmade knitwear and wood engraver Ben Goodman with his unique Christmas cards and stationery.
